Four radiologists and 17 medical diagnostics centres have been honoured at this year’s Ghana Medical Diagnostics Excellence Awards.
This is part of efforts to celebrate the enormous contributions of healthcare professionals and institutions in this field in promoting quality healthcare delivery in Ghana.
Four radiologists were honoured at the second edition of the awards. Dr. Harold Nixon was awarded Muskuloskeletal Radiologist of the Year, Dr. Albertina Ohene Williams was the Breast Radiologist of the Year, Rosemond Aboagye and Dr. Benjamin Dabo Sarkodie were the Pediatric Radiologist of the Year and Best Interventional Radiologist of the Year respectively.
The Chief Executive Officer of MDS Lancet Laboratory Limited, Dr. Paul Sekyere Nyantakyi was adjudged the Outstanding CEO of the Year.
MDS Lancet Laboratory Limited was also awarded for being the overall best laboratory centre of the year. Ridge Medical Center was honoured as the best hematology laboratory centre of the year and Sunshine Health Limited also won the most advanced laboratory centre of the year.
The Executive Director of Africmedia Galaxy, Joseph Egyir Sarfo underscored the important roles being played by diagnostics centres in healthcare delivery.
He indicated that, finding solutions to people's health problems would be difficult without radiologists and diagnostic centres hence the need to celebrate them.
The awards, Mr. Egyir Sarfo added is to create health competition among players in the industry to give off their best.
He appealed for more support from government and corporate organisations as they aim to strengthen healthcare services in the country.
For his part, Board Chairman of the Health Facility Regulatory Authority (HeFRA), Dr. Daniel Asare commended Africmedia Galaxy for the laudable initiative.
According to him, without diagnostics, there cannot be better treatment of ailments in the healthcare facilities across the country.
Recognising the roles being played by radiologists and medical diagnostic centres across the country, Dr. Asare stated should be supported by government.
The HeFRA Board Chairman also charged the diagnostic centers to take advantage of digital tools to enable patients get quicker results for the needed treatment.
Dr. Asare urged the medical diagnostic centres in the country to step up their game to meet international standards.
