Former President John Agyekum Kufuor’s training and mentorship program, the Kufuor Scholar’s Program (KSP) has received 30 new inductees from various universities across the country.

Of the 30 newly admitted persons, 16 are women, and the rest 14, men.

The students, from all across the country, were selected from a list of 1,200 application entries that were made for the program earlier this year.

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the John Agyekum Kufuor Foundation, Professor Baffuor Agyeman-Duah explained under the induction ceremony at the former President’s house at Peduase that, selection was done purely on the basis of merit.

He referred to the students as “having defied all odds amidst the pandemic, in order to join the program” whiles congratulating them for being patient enough to undergo the competitive and rigorous process.

Prof. Agyeman-Duah noted that the scholars will be exposed to leadership camps, mentorship and interactions with the former President for the next three years.

These activities, he said, are aimed at improving their ability to assume prominent responsibilities in Ghana and Africa.

“The objective is to expose them as much as possible so they can prepare themselves better for future leadership,” he mentioned.

On his part, John Agyekum Kufuor shared experiences and implored the beneficiaries to pursue excellence in their individual fields of study.

“Humanity is at the centre of everything, and so wherever you find yourself, try and change the place and make an impact” he reiterated.

“As you leave here today, I discharge you as missionaries with the mission of helping to impact the country positively and changing the negative perception about the African continent,” Mr Kufuor added.

The annual program, started and run by the John Agyekum Kufuor Foundation since 2015 has thus seen a total of 112 students to be admitted since its inception, with the present batch being the highest group of beneficiaries.
