Four individuals have been arrested following the resurgence of violent clashes in the Nkwanta South Municipality, prompting a swift security response from government.
The arrests were confirmed by the Oti Regional Minister, John Kwadwo Gyapong, after an emergency joint meeting between the Regional Security Council (REGSEC) and the Municipal Security Council (MUSEC).
According to the Minister, one of the suspects has been remanded into custody at the Kete-Krachi Prison, while the remaining three are currently assisting police with ongoing investigations.
The latest unrest comes despite several mediation efforts involving leaders from the Adele, Akyode, and Challa ethnic groups aimed at resolving long-standing tensions in the area.
The Minister expressed concern that violence has resurfaced even after sustained dialogue.
In response, government has significantly stepped up security presence in the municipality, deploying over 120 police officers alongside more than 150 military personnel to restore calm and prevent further escalation.
Authorities say the move is part of efforts to protect lives and property, as well as reassure residents and workers within the area.
The Regional Minister urged the public to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies, encouraging residents to report any suspicious activities as efforts continue to stabilise the municipality.
The situation remains under close monitoring as security forces intensify operations to maintain peace and prevent further clashes.
