Poor sanitation issues continue to be a menace in the country. There have been several attempts by the government and other stakeholders to deal with the situation but efforts have returned little or no effect.

Following the President’s campaign to make Ghana clean, the One-on-One Foundation in collaboration with Unilever Ghana has set out to tour various senior high schools to sensitise students on sanitation.

This year’s tour marks the 6th edition of the campaign under the theme: “Poor Sanitation: ‘A canker that must be eliminated at a very youthful stage of our lives’”. It was launched on Friday, February 7, 2020, at Swiss Spirit Alisa Hotel.

President of the One-on-One Foundation, Emmanuel Ola Williams, said the foundation will visit 90 schools this year to monitor their environmental activities and help in correcting poor sanitation practices.

He indicated that the issue of sanitation could be extensively solved if the younger generation is made sanitation conscious.

Some Members of Parliament, heads of Senior High Schools and students graced the launch.

MP for Techiman North, Henry Boachie Yiadom, in an interview with JoyNews, called on citizens to put all hands on deck to solve the sanitation menace in the country.

He said, “As much as we clean ourselves, we must also ensure we clean the environment to minimise filth.”

Representatives of sanitation clubs from some of the schools who were present took turns in poetry recitals and drama, which highlighted the issue of poor sanitation.

Some of the students JoyNews spoke to, lauded the sensitisation drive as a good initiative.

According to them, littering and poor toilet facilities were some of the challenges most students are facing in their schools.

The One-on-One Foundation will be working with various sanitation stakeholders to ensure a successful tour.
