One student is fighting for his life after being attacked by armed robbers on the University of Ghana campus at Legon Saturday night.
Photos circulating on social media show deeps cut to the head, hand and legs of Daniel Osei, a final year Psychology student.
The student was reportedly attacked along the road leading from Pentagon to the Evandy hostel which is situated on the university campus.
Saturday night’s near-fatal attack is one of many such incidents witnessed on the campus recently.
Joy News understands the university management is stepping up security on campus.
But students have begun a campaign with the hashtag, #MakeUGASafePlaceAgain.
The Students Representative Council (SRC) has revealed in a statement issued on Saturday that the university’s authorities have led a delegation to visit the brutalised student who is receiving treatment at the 37 Military Hospital.
“As a matter of urgency, all street lights on campus are being worked on. Also, University Management is working hand in hand with National Security to increase patrol on campus starting tonight 5th May 2019.
“Students are being encouraged to remain calm and prepare towards their exams as the SRC is working hand in hand with University Management to ensure the safety of all students,” the statement said.
These things happen everyday on most campuses in Ghana . KNUST here sef. But after these happen, all we hear is big grammar and security cautions from authorities. I mean when will these authorities put aside those cautions and put measures in place ??#makeUGasafeplaceagain
