Tunisian giants Esperance have been reinstated as the winners of the 2019 CAF Champions League by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
After the first leg of the final between the Tunisian champions and Wydad Casablanca ended in a 1-1 draw in Rabat, the return leg in Tunis ended in controversy.
The match was abandoned by Wydad Casablanca after the club’s players took issue with the faulty VAR system.
As a result, Esperance were initially declared champions on the night but CAF later ruled that the second leg must be replayed in a neutral venue following appeals from the Moroccan outfit.
The matter was then referred by both clubs to the CAS who overruled CAF's decision to replay the final on Tuesday, per confirmation from Esperance, that the Tunisian club are the rightful champions of Africa.
