Former President John Mahama has described as “reckless and unacceptable”, the forceful entry into the offices of software development company, SOFTtribe, by operatives of National Security.
According to him, the disagreement between the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) and the private entity did not warrant the “Rambo-style” with which latter’s premises were invaded, Monday afternoon.
The Technical Director, David Kwamena Bolton, on Tuesday, alleged that armed security operatives on Monday raided the offices SOFTtribe, and seized the mobile phones of its staff.
The heavily armed men claimed to be personnel from the National Security and presented what they claimed was a court order to confiscate mobile phones and electronic equipment of the company’s staff, he told Super Morning Show host, Daniel Dadzie.
The National Security later admitted it carried out the exercise at the offices of the Accra-based software development company, with the sole purpose of safeguarding the database access which had been deliberately blocked by the company.
However, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer in a post on Facebook Wednesday, expressed the worry that the Akufo-Addo administration has suffered a lot of security crisis which he says must be addressed.
“We all join in condemning the reckless invasion of their premises, and the seizure of electronic equipment including mobile phones of staff,” his post read in part.
He added: “Recent events appear to confirm our worst fears that the Nana Addo administration is determined to use the national security machinery to not only intimidate Ghanaians but to whittle away our hard-won rights guaranteed under the constitution of our Republic.”
The Former President further indicated that the outrage of Ghanaians is justified considering the manner the GWCL and National Security handled the situation.
Mr Mahama also acknowledged that SOFTtribe “is one of the indigenous companies that have introduced various digital solutions and impacted positively on payroll management and crime prevention among others.”
