The Asante Mampong Divisional Command has opened investigations into Wednesday’s bloody clash between supporters of two governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary aspirants over filing of nomination forms.
Checks at the Mampong Government Hospital revealed that five people who reported at the facility with varying degrees of injuries ranging from neck, head and hand injuries have all been treated and discharged.
Divisional Commander, Chief Superintendent David Kofi Amoako told Luv News they have invited the victims of the clash and all interested parties including constituency executives of the New Patriotic Party to come and give their statements.
Club-wielding supporters of incumbent MP Kwaku Sarpong Ampratwum, engaged in a free-for-all fight with those of former presidential aspirant, Francis Addai-Nimo, at the party's office on Wednesday.
Police were called in after the clash to maintain law and order.
The scene of the clash, the party's constituency office has its doors left ajar with items scattered on the floor.
One of the injured victims, 35-year old Awal Ibrahim, also known as Obuor and Assemblymember for Zongo West in Mampong a known supporter of the incumbent MP suffered head, hand and chest injuries in the clash.
“I am not feeling well and my finger...It is very serious...I'm feeling pains in my hand. The internal ones are very serious than the ones I am just having on my hands,” he said.
He told JoyNews he has since been invited by the Mampong police for unknown reasons.
Mr Ibrahim fell unconscious after a supporter of Mr Addai-Nimoh identified only as Kwame hit him with a club.
He told JoyNews his action was for self-protection.
“We were holding nothing and they were holding chains and whatever. They were using the things on us so I tried and snatch one of the sticks so I used it on one of them. I hit it with him so he just fell down and I got the space with my brother and just run down,” he continued.
Another victim, Amaniampong Prince who sustained neck injuries is unable to speak properly following Wednesday's attack.
Meanwhile, Mr Addai-Nimoh has filed his nomination forms at the Regional office Thursday.
