Former President John Mahama has arrived at the North East region’s capital, Nalerigu for the fourth edition of his nationwide Speak Out tour.
In this edition, Mr Mahama and his delegation will pay a courtesy visit to the overlord of the Mamprugu Traditional Area, Naa Bohagu Mahami Shariga and ask for his support in the upcoming general elections.
He will also meet chiefs, religious leaders, civil servants, groups and individuals from across the six constituencies in the region at the capital.
Ahead of his arrival, the National Democratic Congress (NDC’s) organiser, Joshua Akamba told JoyNews that the tour is to help the party solicit issues and ideas to draft a manifesto for their 2020 campaign.
"The NDC has a track record as a political party even before then, led by His Excellency President Rawlings, who actually supervised the drafting of the Constitution."
"You remember the ordinary citizens of this country: tailors, dressmakers, shoemakers, nurses and the downtrodden were the one that drafted the 1992 constitution.
"For that matter, the former president has decided that he was going to on a listening tour to meet these people to be able to help with drafting our manifesto," Mr Akamba explained.
Mr Akamba said everyone in the meeting would be given an equal opportunity to address Mr Mahama as well as contribute in the discussion.
The organiser, when asked whether the former President would use the platform to address the airbus controversy, Akamba answered No.
According to him, the tour was not about Mr Mahama or his past administration but for the people to identify their issues for discussions.
