The Ghana Education Service says it will distribute hand sanitizers to public schools in the country after a joint meeting with the Ghana Health Service in the wake of the coronavirus outbreak.
Ghana has recorded two cases of the deadly virus that has been classified as a pandemic by the World Health Organization (WHO).
The two – a Ghanaian who was returning from Turkey and a Norwegian Diplomat – tested positive for the virus on Thursday.
"Laboratory results of the two confirmed cases were received at the same time from the Noguchi Memorial Institute of Medical Research.
"Both individuals returned to Ghana - one from Norway and the other from Turkey - so these are imported cases of COVID-19,” Health Minister, Kwaku Agyeman-Manu announced on Thursday.
This promoted the meeting between the GES and GHS following which it was decided, among other things, that “basic preventive items like hand sanitizers” will be distributed to the schools.
The joint communique also stated that educational materials, jointly developed by the GES and GHS will be widely circulated to schools to facilitate education about the disease at that level.
