The Abuakwa South Municipal Assembly of the Eastern Region on Saturday, April 4, 2020, carried out a disinfection exercise in major market centres as well as public spaces in the area.
The markets disinfected include those at Kibi, Asafo, Asiakwa and Apedwa all located in the municipality.
The Assembly also carried out a fumigation exercise within the palace of the Okyenhene, Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin, which receives a lot of visitors to the Akyem King.
As part of measures to ensure that residents do not interrupt the exercise, all shops, markets and other public places of gathering have been made to temporarily shut operations.
The exercise was supervised by Municipal Chief Executive, Kojo Ofori-Safo.

He explained, the exercise is being carried out as part of measures to curtail surge in cases of the coronavirus epidemic. Some far 205 persons have tested positive for the virus which has killed five others while 31 are said to have recovered from it.
In a related development, more than two hundred markets in the Eastern Region have disinfected to enhance the condition of hygiene in the wake of the coronavirus outbreak.
The Municipal and District Assemblies undertook the exercise under the supervision of the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development.
