The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly has cautioned residents of Kumasi against slipping back into old habits such as littering, after the city completed its clean up and fumigation exercises of the Central Business District.
Osei Assibey Antwi, the Mayor of Kumasi warned the residents during the first day of the cleanup and fumigation exercises which were conducted by Zoomlion.
“Alabar area is a highly business class zone but [traders] are only interested in trading and they are not interested in cleaning their own environment.”
“We are going to be very tough on them because this is not the first time we are doing this exercise. We have been serving them notices to advise them that they have to take care of themselves and they have to be mindful of their health.
"We are not going to continue doing this. If they do not abide we will take drastic action against them,” he said.
Simon Osei Mensah, the Regional Minister, who was also in attendance urged other cities and towns to take advantage of the lockdown to clean up and conduct fumigate exercises.
“All the other municipal and district assemblies can also emulate and also do the same within their areas of their jurisdiction.”
“We are also urging all traders that when the lockdown period is over we don’t want people to come and litter the whole city again,” he added.
