The Ghana Covid-19 Private Sector Fund (The GCPSFund) has announced an end to its Feed-A-Kayayo Project.
The Project was introduced to provide a free meal for head-porters popularly known as Kayayei and other underprivileged persons during the period of the lockdown announced by President Akufo-Addo to curb the spread of coronavirus in the country.
But the GCPSFund says “with the roll out of the feeding programme by the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection, the Trustees of the Ghana COvid-19 Private Sector Fund have decided to end the ‘Feed-a-kayayo’ project effective April 13, 2020.”
The Fund said it will, however, focus on other initiatives like, Feed-the-frontline to provide meals for health workers battling the disease.
They will be protecting and resourcing the frontline workers by providing much-needed personal protective equipment to hospitals treating and caring for Covid-19 patients.
And also, “the construction of a 100-bed isolation and treatment facility at the Ga East Hospital which serves as the National Covid-19 Treatment Centre.
The Fund expressed gratitude to government, volunteers caterers and the Ghana Police Service for risking their health to serve the larget populace on this project.
“We recognise the leadership shown by Julie Essiam, Trustee of the Fund, in managing and making this project possible.”
