The Member of Parliament, for Ayawaso West Wuogo Constituency, Lydia Seyram Alhassan, has donated some relief items to faith-based organisations towards the campaign against the Covid-19 pandemic.

The items which included 3000 bags of 5kg rice, 500 crates of eggs, 1,500 nose mask and 2,000 pieces of hand sanitizers, were presented to the Presbyterian Church at Abelemkpe for onward distribution to all churches within the constituency. 

The MP explained that the partnerships between the religious bodies is to ensure, the needs of the vulnerable within the Christian fraternity are met, adding that the church is in a better position to identify the needy amongst the multitude.

“I cannot visit all homes, so I decided to partner you to ensure that the needs of the vulnerable are met.  You know your members better than I because you represent a lot of the constituents. You know where they live, you know their needs. It’s easier for you to share the items because you know to reach the vulnerable,” she said.

The Ayawaso West Wuogon legislator also pointed out that the move is to avoid crowed that usually characterizes the distributions of some of the relief items.

“When I began sharing the items to the constituents, my team and I were struggling to get the people observe the social distancing protocols. I became alarmed by their actions and felt the need to change the approach. I didn’t want to have a situation where my constituents would risk their lives because of one bag or rice or a bottle of oil. That’s why I decided to change the strategy”

She however entreated citizens to adhere strictly to the world health organization protocol whilst asking them to stay safe and stay home.

She also indicated that she would make such presentations the Muslim community to support the Covid-19 pandemic fight.

Rev Esther Asimah-Agborli, Parish pastor for E.P Church at Abelemkpe who represented the faith based organization assured of distributing the items to persons who indeed are vulnerable. Rev Pastors from the Assemblies of God church, Presbyterian Church, EP Church Ghana were present at a brief ceremony.
