The Jasikan District Assembly in the Oti Region has organised a virtual concert to intensify its coronavirus campaign to prevent the spread of the virus.
The Covid-19 Concert served as a medium to engage and enlighten the youth on observing safety protocols to avoid contracting the virus while entertaining them.
Lawrence Aziale, the Jasikan District Chief Executive, explained that the Assembly had targeted the youth in the coronavirus campaign hence the decision to support the Buem Music Gallery with resources to put up the virtual concert.
He expressed optimism that getting the youth to assimilate the importance of adhering to the safety protocols, would make a great impact in the fight against the pandemic in the district.
Mr Aziale said, ”the majority of the population in the district are the youth, and if they will understand that coronavirus is real and observe the safety protocols, then the fight against the pandemic will be won.”
He added that the concert also served a means of promoting musical talents in the districts in a bid to put them in the limelight.
”I am also working on some advertising contracts, so once they get one or two hits, they can start to earn a living,” he added.
In a related development, Mr Aziale said the Assembly has equipped all health facilities and border posts with infrared thermometer guns, which is a basic essential tool used in identifying potential carriers of the virus.
He further stated that screening centres have been mounted at the various entry points into the district, while public education on safety protocols continues unabated.
Officials from the Ghana Health Services took turns to speak about the virus, it's infection rate and preventive measures.
They hammered on the need to stay home, observe social distancing, avoid crowded places, frequent washing of hands with soap under running water and the use of sanitizers.
Leaders of the various religious groups also implored residents to endeavour to adhere to the preventive measures for their own safety and that of society.
The 2018 Oti Region Artiste of the Year, Quaku Messiah, climaxed the concert with a thrilling performance.
