The Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Freddie Blay has revealed that the party could consider electronic voting in the conduct of its Parliamentary primaries in the various constituencies.
Speaking on Joy News’ Election Brief Monday, Mr Blay said the Steering committee will meet to find the best way to carry out the primaries.
According to him, although President Akufo-Addo has relaxed some of the Covid-19 restrictions, the party will not carry out any activity that will endanger the lives of its supporters.
“We [Steering committee] will meet possibly tomorrow or the next day and we will take decisions that will not go contrary to the restrictions that have been imposed [by the government].
“We could even consider e-voting or we could go to electoral areas to conduct the primaries. That may involve a little more resources. Indeed some kind of supervision will be quite challenging but we will manage it and take a decision in a couple of days.
NPP was to originally hold its Parliamentary primaries on April 25, 2020, however, it was suspended due to the ban on social gatherings as part of national efforts toward to contain the Covid-19 pandemic.
Commenting on this, the party’s Chair said, the development has left many applicants uncertain of the future.
But he assured that the Steering Committee will do take all measures to ensure that the primaries are held effectively.
“The MPs are quite worried, and uncertain as to the future relating to the primaries, but the Party is trying to put up a schedule through consultation to find the best way to ensure that the primaries are conducted,” he said.
