Former President John Mahama has described President Akufo-Addo’s management of the Covid-19 crisis as chaotic.
The situation, the Former president said, had led to the spike in cases in the last two weeks.
He said there is currently a lot of pressure on Ghana's health system with health workers testing positive for the virus and forcing them to go into self-isolation.
"Today, there are disturbing reports of health workers being exposed, testing positive and forced to undergo self-isolation, quarantine or treatment," President Mahama said in a live interaction with people on Facebook.
"This is a sad reflection of the Akufo-Addo administration's chaotic handling of the Covid-19 situation."
In the live interaction on Facebook on Thursday night, the NDC Flagbearer also accused President Akufo-Addo of seeking parochial interests amid the pandemic as well as refusing to be guided by science and data.
He said: "You cannot do propaganda with a pandemic. Lining up Council of State members, chiefs and student groups to the seat of government to congratulate the President on his handling of the virus will not let the virus go away. The infections and deaths will always expose you."
The former President indicated that the pandemic has placed a lot of pressure on Ghana's health system resulting in an adverse effect on the provision of reliable and quality healthcare to patients with other health conditions.
He called on the government to increase the number of Covid-19 testing centres to fast track the release of sample results.
Mr. Mahama also asked the government to be transparent in the management of the pandemic in order for Ghanaians to have confidence and trust in the system.
