The General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has taken a swipe at the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) saying being social democrats go beyond slogans.
John Boadu said the essence of a socialist philosophy is to live up to the name by performing and letting it reflect in the lives of the everyday people.
Addressing party members at the NPP acclamation ceremony for Nana Akufo-Addo in Accra, Saturday, he explained that even though his party is a centre-right party, they have done much more than the social democratic party, the NDC has done regarding social intervention programmes.
He listed programmes introduced by former president J.A Kufour for pregnant women as well as the Free SHS programme, the Zongo Development Fund and the training of 100,000 youth for employment under Akufo-Addo.
"I think that it is important that our friends from the opposing side recognise that saying that you are social democrats must not be in slogans, [but] it must be in deeds and action."
He added that the NPP has a proven track record of changing the lives of Ghanaians that have since needed social interventions since they came into power but the NDC cannot say same.
"It is almost three and half years now when the Vice President, Mahamudu Bawumia, put out a question to the NDC that they should show one social intervention programme, only one, just one."
"We can show, although a centre-right political party, all the social intervention programmes that affect the lives of our people are programmes that were introduced by the new patriotic party and its traditions," Mr Boadu said.
