British heavyweight Dillian Whyte's world-title shot was dealt a heavy blow as Alexander Povetkin twice rose from the canvas to secure a stunning knockout victory.
Out-boxed for three rounds and down twice in the fourth as Whyte mixed poise with power, Povetkin found the precision and power in the fifth round with a left uppercut to put Whyte to bed and with it the Londoner’s world title hopes
Whyte, who needed treatment, will get a rematch according to Eddie Hearn.
Whyte left the arena without speaking to the media but promoter Hearn insists a rematch is on the cards.
The jubilant celebration of Povetkin’s corner was loud with no fans allowed, as Whyte lay, almost motionless, on his back.
