A sub-chief of the Osudoku Traditional Area has been arrested by the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) over his alleged involvement in the activities of the secessionist group in parts of the Volta Region.
The Akuse Divisional Police Command confirmed that Nene Tawiah Agblom II who is Head of the Dorsi Clan was arrested over the weekend but did not disclose further details.
The Osudoku Traditional Council, however, has dissociated itself from the activities of the sub-chief as well as that of the separatist groups.
Paramount Chief of the Osudoku Traditional Area, Aadegbor Ngmongmowuyaa Nene Kwesi Animle VI who condemned the act, expressed shock over the alleged involvement of the chief in "such a heinous crime."
“It has been confirmed that one of our chiefs, Nene Tawiah Agblom II, has been picked up by the authorities for involving himself in the activities of the Western Togoland secession.
“Considering his position and relationship with me as the Paramount Chief and the entire people of the Osudoku State, it became expedient to come out to disassociate myself and the Traditional Council and area completely from this diabolic agenda," he said in a statement.
Aadegbor Ngmongmowuyaa Nene Kwesi Animle VI said Osudoku, as a traditional area, has always been a part of the Sovereign state of Ghana and has no reason to seek independence from Ghana.
“I also unequivocally condemn the move without any reservation whatsoever,” he added.
He further warned chiefs and the people of the Traditional Area against involving themselves in this "unacceptable venture."
"Anybody who does so does that at his or her own risk," he added.
He also urged security agencies to be always alert, and work without fear or favour, in spite of the one who would be found in this criminal activity.
