President Akufo-Addo has described as shocking claims by his predecessor John Mahama that the implementation of the Free Senior High policy was before the current administration.
The President is baffled by this assertion because "when I said I was going to introduce the policy [during 2016 elections], he said I was lying to Ghanaians and that I was only saying it because I needed votes."
John Mahama, during his three-day campaign tour of the Upper East Region told residents of Tuobong in the Tempane District that the Free SHS policy was started by the NDC government in 2015.
“We started the programme and the NPP came and continued it. Unfortunately, the implementation has been very poor, and so it ended us in double track,” Mr. Mahama stressed on Tuesday.
But President Akufo-Addo is wondering what basis for the claim could be.
According to him, the latest pronouncements by the NDC flagbearer is an indication of a dying campaign trail clutching at straws.
"He has seen that his campaign is collapsing on confusion, fabrication and now outright lies," the President said about what he believes is a dying NDC campaign.
He said this during an interaction with traders at Mallam, Odorkor and Agbobloshie in the Greater Accra Region on Wednesday.
