The Ashanti Region Police Commander, COP Akwasi Mensah Doku says officers will be re-assigned on their duties on Election Day so as not to disenfranchise some personnel in the upcoming elections.
This follows the omission of the names of some personnel from the special voting scheduled for Tuesday, December 1.
In an interview with JoyNews’ Nana Yaw Gyimah, COP Mensah Duku said officers who were originally assigned outside their constituencies will be brought closer to their polling stations.
This, he explained, is to enable security personnel to vote and perform their duties concurrently.
According to him, his outfit is considering new arrangements that will not affect security at the polling stations.
He, however, refused to comment on why some of the officers' names were missing in the final Special Voters' list.
Meanwhile, the General Officer Commanding the Central Command, Brigadier General Joseph Aphor has assured that the public security services are ready for the elections.
“We want to inform the public that we are going to be at our best and protect them on the Election Day so that everyone can go to their polling station and cast their vote without any fear or intimidation,” he said.
Ghana's security services comprising the Police Service, the Armed Forces, Prisons Service, National Fire Service, Immigration Service, Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority, the National Intelligence Bureau together with the National Ambulance Service and the National Commission for Civic Education on Thursday embarked on a nationwide route march to assure citizens of their safety before, during and after the 2020 polls.
