A Deputy Chief of Staff at the Presidency has unseated incumbent MP for the Damongo Constituency in the Savannah region.
Samuel Abu Jinapor won the 2020 Parliamentary race with 15,671 votes while his contender on the ticket of the NDC obtained 13,330 votes.
This is his first appearance in parliament as MP, however, this is the third time the NPP is winning the parliamentary seat in the constituency.
The NPP won two consecutive times in the parliamentary race with its first win in the 2000 elections.
Meanwhile, the constituency has been an NDC stronghold and has obtained majority votes in the Presidential race since 1996 when former President Jerry John Rawlings first won presidential elections in the Constituency.
President Akufo-Addo could not also obtain majority votes (in the constituency) in this year's presidential race to match that of the NPP parliamentary candidate.
Presidential results
NDC presidential candidate John Dramani Mahama won in the constituency with 16, 231 votes against President Akufo-Addo who obtained 12,264 votes.
The Ghana Union Movement came third with 62 votes while CPP's Ivor Greenstreet won 27 votes.
GFP's Akua Donkor obtained 3 votes, GCPP won 7 votes, APC won 24 votes, LPG obtained 15 votes, PNC had 20 votes, PPP obtained 7 votes , NDP won 4 votes while Independent candidate Asiedu Walker won 11 votes.
Samuel Abu Jinapor's profile
Mr Jinapor, a lawyer, graduated from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology where he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics with specialisation in Biomedical Physics.
He is the younger brother of a former Deputy Minister of Power under the previous NDC government, John Abdulai Jinapor, who also retained his seat as MP for the Yapei-Kusawgu Constituency.
Mr Samuel Jinapor has played active roles in politics and has been a campaign aide to President Akufo-Addo in the 2007, 2018 and 2012 NPP presidential primaries, among other roles.
He is happily married to Mrs. Naada B.D. Jinapor who is also a lawyer.
