The Northern Regional Police Command has deployed men to protect the Tamale office of the Driver and Vehicle Licenses Authority (DVLA) after the staff were allegedly threatened by pro-New Patriotic Party (NPP) group, Kandahar boys.
On Saturday, the group earlier is reported to have stormed the offices of the Authority demanding that it be close down and the staff chased out.
It is unclear what their intentions were but the Northern Regional Police Commander, COP Timothy Yoosa Bonga said investigations are underway.
This is not the first time party groups have taken over an institution in the Northern region.
The Kandahar boys have in the past sacked the CEO of the Tamale Teaching Hospital from his office, sacked staff of the Ghana Highs Authority from entering their offices, the then Savannah Accelerated Development Authority had its share among several others.
Speaking to the JoyNews the Northern Regional Police Commander who led the team to the DVLA said they are told it’s the Kandahar boys, but they are yet to identify any member of the group to effect an arrest and prosecute.
He said if in the past the group has taken over offices he is not aware but for the recent incident the police would arrest and prosecute the culprits to deter others.
COP Yoosa Bonga said the Regional Director of the DVLA led a team on Saturday morning to report that their offices were being attacked and they needed protection.
He said a statement has been taken and investigations have commenced noting that his men have been deployed to offer protection at the premises.
COP Yoosa Bonga said their priority, for now, is to provide the Authority with protection so that they can get back to work.
