Two Obuasi-based groups are promoting healthy and safe menstruation among female students in Obuasi and its environs.
Self-Love Foundation and ‘Could You Team' have also launched an education drive on teenage pregnancy and dangers of unsafe abortion to encourage more girls in the area stay in school.
At one of such events at the Christ the King Senior High School, a Midwife at Anglogold Ashanti Health Foundation, Sally Tieku warned the girls on dangers of teenage pregnancy.
According to her, since they are too young and most of their body parts not yet developed to carry a baby, any pregnancy at that stage leads to complications such as Fistula.

She explained, Fistula which is an abnormal connection between organs; urethra and the birth canal, it cause urine to pass through the birth canal.
On menstrual and vagina hygiene, she said it is one of the major health concerns among adolescents.
“Abstaining from sexual intercourse and personal hygiene is the best way to keep the vagina fresh and clean,” Mrs Tieku said.
Mrs. Tieku took the students through how to maintain the best of hygiene during and after menstruation through proper personal hygiene.
Meanwhile, the groups have donated 216 sanitary pads and 120 menstrual cups to the students.
The introduction of the menstrual cup, which can last for a decade is to help support students who cannot afford the cost of sanitary pads.
Monitoring and Evaluation Specialist at ‘Could You Team’, Kofi Kyeremateng Nyanteng says the donation is a move to ensure no girl skip school because of menstruation.
"We are leaving no girl behind and no female student stays out of school because of period poverty. Therefore, we are here to donate menstrual cups that can last for a decade to the students," he said.
Executive Director of Self-Love Foundation, Hillary Ekuoba Gyasi who spoke at the workshop said the workshop dubbed ‘Creating Her-Story and Cup It’ revealed her organization will continue to encourage young girl’s to aspire for higher positions.
