Director of Sports for University of Ghana, Dr. Bella Belo Bitugu has revealed that some Ghana Premier League clubs have requested to use the university’s sports stadium as their home venue for the second round of the season.
So far, Accra Hearts of Oak, Accra Great Olympics, Inter Allies, Legon Cities and Kumasi Asante Kotoko have all relied on the Accra Sports Stadium as their home venue for the 2020/2021 football season.
The high usage of the pitch has forced the national sports authority and teams to look at alternative options.
One of which is the University of Ghana sports stadium. Although the facility is uncompleted, Dr. Bello believes the Stadium is in good shape and there is still a possibility it can be used.
“In terms of using the stadium for league matches, yes there has been a request. It’s a long way and it depends on the efforts we put in to make it possible. It is doable but I don’t have the rights to allow and disallow but I think it is possible it can happen if we can get the things right,” he said in an interview with Joy Sports.
The Ghana Premier League has been on break since Sunday, March 6, 2021 and is scheduled to return on Friday, April 2, 2021.
