Deputy Energy Minister nominee, Andrew Egyapa Mercer has said his legal experience won him his appointment as deputy Energy Minister.
His experience, he said will help tackle some challenges faced by the energy ministry in order to execute Akufo-Addo's mandate in stabilising the sector.
"I guess the President selected me because of my background as a lawyer so that I will be able to complement and assist the minister responsible for energy to execute the mandate of the president as it has been outlined in the manifesto.
Expressing his joy after President Akufo-Addo on Wednesday submitted the names of his deputy ministerial nominees for Parliament’s approval, the Sekondi MP said he is humbled and honoured to have been part of the list of deputy minister-designates.
"It is humbling that amongst the lots he settled on me as one of the people who he has nominated and with the blessings of parliament if I am confirmed to go in there and to help the energy minister and archive the President mandate."
Mr Mercer, commenting on the current power outage, noted that over the years the country has failed to invest in the energy sector.
However, he believes that current upgrade in the energy sector will resolve power outages experienced in the country.
"Consistently over the years we’ve not invested as much even though some work is going on in the grid to ensure that the power outages are solve in order for power to be transmitted to feed industries and also the serve the consuming public."
Nevertheless, the nominee further indicated that if giving the nod, he will work hand-in-hand with the energy minister, Matthew Opoku Prempeh to address issues and ensure a facelift of the ministry.
