Lawyer and Dean of the University of Professional Studies (UPSA) Law School, has advised members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to resolve its conflicts behind closed doors.
Professor Kofi Abotsi speaking on JoyNews' Newsfile Saturday, told host Samson Lardy Anyenini that disunity is the recipe for the defeat of any political contesting for power.
"So if you handle your conflict publicly, as it’s ongoing at the moment, and if the conflict appears vituperative, and it’s going out of control, there’s the danger that some of these factions or the perceived factions may become perpetualised."
Dr Benjamin Kunbuor, a leading member of the NDC, on JoyNews’ PM Express on Monday, said the opposition party is not at a crossroad despite some alleged division among the party leadership.
He said a year and a half ago he took up the responsibility of “holding series of internal party meetings” all aimed at reconciling members and easing tension within the party.
“We are really not at a crossroads, but we are at a point in which the roads are likely to cross, and we want to avoid a situation of us getting into a crossroad,” Dr Kunbuor.
Citing the New Patriotic Party (NPP) as an example, the Dean of UPSA Law School said the party has gone through this challenging phase before and although some members lost their membership, the party stood firm.
Although conflicts are inevitable among members of political parties in the country, he said "What is not inevitable is explosive conflicts".
He further intimated that if such explosive arguments persist, there would be a problem with the NDC's shot at political power.
