Lands and Natural Resources Minister, Samuel Abu Jinapor has said the Western Regional Security Council has been charged to enforce the laws against galamsey without fear or favor.
This according to him forms part of President Akufo-Addo's determination to win the fight against illegal mining and other natural resources.
Briefing the media after a meeting together with the Regional Security Council, the MMDCE's and some small-scale miners, Samuel Abu Jinapor said there would be absolutely no regard for culprits and their colouration or positions in our society in that regard.
“The law must be applied fully, there should be no consideration for whoever flouts the law whether you are an NPP member or you are an NDC member, or you are this or that," he said Monday.
According to him, the Regional Security Council, on their part has registered their commitment as the directives were communicated clearly to them.
“I’m very happy with the assurance that the Regional Security Council has given because they are responsible for the security component of this fight and they are required to enforce the laws and required to enforce all the regulations and they are determined to do so without fear or favor.”
Mr Abu Jinapor noted that President Akufo-Addo is not against mining but on the contrary, he is against the destruction of the environment.
He apprised that the intent is to build the country into a robust, viable, sustainable small scale mining industry that has regards for the environment.
“This is what the president seeks to establish here in Ghana, but he is vehemently opposed to illegalities in the small scale mining industry.
“He’s charged myself and the security architecture of our country to ensure that we flash out illegality out of the industry, that’s what we are working on.”
The Lands Minister, therefore, commended the Security Council and the Western Regional Minister for its contributions so far in the battle.
“I am very happy the Western Regional Minister has already begun the fight in sanitising and regularise the small scale mining industry and I must commend him highly for the work he is doing,” he said.
