The Paramount Chief of Aflao in the Ketu South Municipality of the Volta Region, Torgbui Adzonugaga Amenya Fiti has appealed to the government through the Ministry of Education to speed up works for the completion of the Community Senior High School (E-Block) in the area.

The GETFund project which is currently 90 percent complete began in 2016 but has stalled.

This has been a disappointment to the chiefs and people of Aflao who are anticipating that the Community Day School will eliminate stress on students from the area who have to travel long distances to access second cycle education. 

Torgbui Amenya Fiti who visited the project site in an interview with the media urged government to ensure that the project is completed before the beginning of the next academic year in September.

He said though there are other second cycle institutions in the Ketu South Municipality, Aflao as a traditional area does not have any, which is a setback considering the contribution of the area towards revenue generation by government at the Aflao border. 

Togbui Amenya Fiti was optimistic that a second cycle institution in the area could help reduce crime in the area when the youth are enrolled in school.

He also bemoaned the encroachment of the school's lands by some families who donated parcels of lands for the project. He said these families have resorted to taking their lands because the project is at a standstill.

A Queen Mother of Aflao, Mama Atokede expressed the hope that the youth in the area, especially, females would be empowered when the school project is completed. This she said would in turn eliminate menace like increasing teenage pregnancy rates in the area.

Lawyer for the Aflao Traditional Council, Ebenezer Ahiator noted that, the Council would take the necessary legal steps to recover all lands that were allocated for the school project. 

Meanwhile the Member of Parliament (MP) for Ketu South, Dzifa Gomashie has added her voice on the need for the Community Senior High School at Aflao to be completed for students in the area.

She expressed displeasure that five years after the commencement of the project, government has not been able to complete it. 

Madam Gomashie said the children of Aflao have the right to education and government has a responsibility to ensure that the necessary infrastructure and facilities for education delivery are provided in their locality to make it accessible.

The MP later planted seedlings of Acacia trees on the school's project site as part of the government's "Green Ghana" initiative.
