The Youth Wing of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has notified the Ghana Police Service of its intention to hit the streets of Accra on Tuesday, July 6.

The group in its press statement noted that the demonstration dubbed “A March for Justice” will start from 8 am to midday.

"This letter is sent to your way in line with the Public Order Act. The Act (491) stipulates that the police be notified under section (1) of any special event within the meaning of the Public Order Act," portions of the press release read.

According to the party's National Youth Organiser, George Opare Addo, the protest is to "demand justice for all persons killed and brutalized by state-sponsored thuggery and/or adventurism by police and military forces."

He added that their protest will also demand social justice for the unemployed youth in the country.

The various starting points of the protests are Madina, the Accra business district, Osu and Lapaz.

The supporters will subsequently, meet at the Jubilee House to present a petition to President Akufo-Addo, Inspector-General of Police, James Oppong-Boanuh and Speaker Alban Kingsford Sumana Bagbin.

The NDC Youth also disclosed its willingness to meet the police for further deliberation on the said protest.

The party's decision to embark on a protest falls on the back of electoral violence that ensued at Techiman South during the 2020 general elections. Over five deaths were recorded nationwide owing to alleged military brutality.

Recently, two residents of Ejura Sekyeredumase on Tuesday, June 29, lost their lives after a clash with the police and military officers during a protest to demand justice over the murder of social activist, Ibrahim Mohammed, also known as Kaaka.

The two deceased are Abdul Nasir Yussif, 25, and Muntala Mohammed, 26.
