The Youth Wing of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has presented its petition to the Office of the President at the Jubilee House on Tuesday, July 6.

Executives of the party including General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, National Youth Organiser, George Opare Addo together with party faithful and members of the public, hit the streets of Accra on Tuesday morning with the theme "A March for Justice" to register their displeasure on the “growing levels of insecurity, lawlessness, and impunity under the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia government”.

From Accra Mall - the converging point, the protestors marched to the Jubilee House to present one of its two petitions to the President.

The Deputy Chief of Staff in Charge of Operations, Emmanuel Adumua-Bossman, received the petition on behalf of the President, Nana Akufo-Addo.

Engaging the protestors, he gave the assurance that the appropriate authorities will be consulted to resolve the issues regarding the law following due processes.

"On behalf of the President, I have received this petition. I listened to the articulation, they contained some democratic issues and issues that border on the rule of law. I am sure the appropriate authorities will be detailed and directed to do that which is possible and necessary under the dictates of our constitution. Thank you so much for coming and may God bless us all and our homeland Ghana," he stated.

"It is indeed a right that you have exercised rightly and we also have to complement it in order to build the democracy that this country is noted for. It is not during the tenure of Nana Akufo-Addo that we will undermine the rights that have been guaranteed in the constitution and for this reason, I have been asked to come and receive the petition so that what should be done officially shall be done for the benefit of all of us in this republic called Ghana, so here we are and we are ready to take that which you want to submit to the Presidency," Mr Emmanuel Adumua-Bossman added.

Prior to the protest, the National Democratic Congress condemned the attack on the protesting Ejura youth and some residents of Wa in the Upper West Region, by military personnel as well as the government’s inability to bring the perpetrators of the violence that erupted in Techiman South during the 2020 general elections, to book.

These are among many reasons the party hit the streets to remind the President of his responsibilities towards the people of Ghana especially in the area of public safety and security while observing the necessary Covid-19 safety protocols such as the wearing of facemasks, using of hand sanitisers to prevent further spread of the virus.

The Parliament House is the last location to be visited by the protestors to present their petition to Speaker Alban Kingsford Sumana Bagbin.

Meanwhile, reports from JoyNews' Daniel Dadzie reveal that the protestors have been unable to observe social distancing as they march to demand accountability from the government.
