The Savannah Regional House of Chiefs has rescinded its earlier decision to allow for a one-month window on uncollected logs.

This comes after the committee had on July 5, directed loggers to cart their already cut logs from the region.

A five-member Eminent Chiefs Committee on illegal logging, commercial charcoal burning and illegal small scale mining had been ordered by the Savannah Regional Security Council to comply with the directive.

But in the latest move, the REGSEC believes the reversal of the decision will go a long way to help in the fight against degradation in the area.

A press release signed by the Committee Chairman, Bolewura Sarfo Kutuge Feso I, indicated that cancelling the window on uncollected logs, supersedes that of the 5th July 2021.

"...the 30th May 2021 ban on illegal logging, commercial Charcoal burning and commercial fuelwood harvesting are effective and in force. Ladies and Gentlemen, this press release supersedes the press conference staged on 5th of July, 2021," portions of the statement read.

The statement also explained that "upon further consultations with the King of Gonja and President of the Savannah Regional House of Chiefs His Royal Majesty, Yagbonwura Tutumba Bore Essa II and the Eminent Chiefs Committee Chairman, Buipewura Jinapor II as well as key Stakeholders, the Savannah Regional House of Chiefs have resolved that the decision on the carting window on the uncollected logs in the Savannah Region has been rescinded."
