Promasidor Ghana Limited has launched this year’s edition of the Ongalicious Ghana Cooks Reality Show to promote Ghanaian delicacies and inspiring recipes.
According to Category Lead for Culinary at Onga, Eva Njeru Njeri, the show seeks to encourage chefs and other food industry players to explore Ghanaian food.
“The show is driven with a primary objective of empowering aspiring chefs as well as promoting indigenous and modern Ghanaian cuisine to Ghanaians and the world at large.”
The maiden edition of the show was launched in the year 2015 and was followed by Season 2 & 3 which was produced and aired in 2019 and 2020 respectively.
This year’s edition of the show is dubbed – “Ongalicious Ghana Cooks, the Family Edition”.
Speaking at the launch of the show, Eva Njeru Njeri explained the rationale behind the choice of family for this year’s edition.
“This area is very important for us as a brand because our essence is to provide good food moments that are Ongalicious for families. As a brand we believe in the need to eat healthy meals; but what is a healthy meal if it doesn’t taste good? And this is where we come in as Onga – Mama’s helping hand.”
Also speaking at the launch, Commercial Director for Promasidor Ghana Limited, Samir Sadaoui, said the initiative will in the long run train individuals to become culinary experts and boost the Ghanaian tourism industry.
“At the end of this year’s show, we want to reinforce the need to build Ongalicious Moments but also very importantly is the opportunity to empower the individual contestants and reaffirm the brands position as number One and Ghana’s Favorite Seasoning.”
The show will run for 13 weeks, and the final 12 selected families – “the cook and the helping hand” will undergo various activities.
“Remember this; our promise is to empower these individuals and hence they will go through intense competition, weekly evictions, training by seasoned and top Chefs in Ghana, mentoring on various aspects of being great culinary experts – be it knowing your ingredients, how to avoid waste and the like”, he pointed out
The theme for the show is “Developing Ghanaian Food Entrepreneurs through Innovation & Culture”
Representative of the Executive Director for the National Commission on Arts and Culture, Harriet Kumi Boateng, said Ghanaian food if branded properly has the potential to survive even on the international front.
“Food is part of our culture, and food can attract tourists to the country. Ghanaian food has the potential to thrive on every platform if packaged properly.”
According to Onga, it is focused on reinforcing the need to build Ongalicious Moments but also afford the opportunity to empower the individual contestants and reaffirm the brands as a go to seasoning brand in Ghana.
