The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare has urged estate developers to make lands available for the construction of Police stations when developing their estates.

According to Dr. Dampare, the non-availability of lands for building Police stations in the estates impedes efforts to effectively enforce law and order in such communities.

Speaking to the media and some Police officers, he explained that security is critical in every human endeavour.

“Lands are being shared for both developmental purposes; commercial and residential, and nobody will factor in a Police station. They share the whole piece of land and they have no place for Police, yet they want Police to come into that community. We want to urge all and sundry that for everything that we do, if security, peace, law and order are not in place, the equation will not balance,” he said.

The IGP’s concern is for stakeholders to help his outfit efficiently curb criminal activities, especially in newly developed communities where there have been reports of increased crime.

Many individuals and corporate organisations have in recent times sponsored the construction of Police stations to help the Service deal with crime in the country.

In May last year, the Church of Pentecost at Abrem Agona in the Central Region, built a Police station at the cost of GH¢135,000 to support the Police Service.
