The group stage games of the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) came to an end on Thursday, January 20, as four matches were played between Groups E and F.
In their earlier matches, Ivory Coast finished top of Group E following a 3-1 win over Algeria, with the latter becoming the latest defending champions to suffer elimination in the first round of the competition.
Algeria took just one point from three games as they were beaten by Equatorial Guinea before the loss to the Elephants.
Sierra Leone, after an impressive opening two games, failed to also make it out of the group as they lost to Equatorial Guinea in their last game.
Tunisia lost to Gambia in the dying embers of the game through an Albie Jallow strike in added time while Mali recorded a 2-0 victory over Mauritania in Group F.
Debutants Gambia and Comoros advance to the knockout stages of the competition with Comoros booking a historic place in the last 16 with victory over four-time champions, Ghana.
Ivory Coast will go head to head with seven-time champions, Egypt in the next round of the competition while Nigeria also battle it out with Tunisia.
The host nation, Cameroon will engage Comoros in their next fixture with Senegal also playing Cape Verde.
