The Volta Regional Minister, Dr Archibald Letsa, has tasked the various Municipal and District Assemblies in his jurisdiction to strategise towards increasing internally generated funds.
He advised the leadership to liaise with the assembly members and other relevant stakeholders to map out a workable plan towards achieving this feat.
During his tour of the region, he urged the assemblies to make functional their substructures at the unit committee level to contribute to mobilising revenue.
Dr Letsa advised that a portion of IGF should be used to fund development projects at the local level and labelled as such to indicate to the citizenry that taxes are put to good use.
He was, however, unhappy with “the repeated mistakes” leading to queries on audit reports of the assemblies and implored that such awful instances are prevented in the future.
He stressed that any staff found guilty of violating the local government code of conduct would not be spared.
He also warned against extortion of service providers and clients before making payment or awarding contracts.
Dr Letsa expressed worry about occasions where whistleblowers are victimised for pointing out wrongdoing and reporting officers culpable.
In Anfoega in the North Dayi District, the Minister inspected works on a dining hall and kitchen project, an administration block, and a three-unit classroom block, all at various stages of completion.
Management of Bishop Herman College in the Kpando Municipality appealed to Dr Letsa to lobby the Education Ministry to complete a boys dormitory project started in 2008 when he visited the campus.
However, the current government has completed a dormitory block and is in use.
In the Hohoe Municipality, the MCE Noble Daniel Awume led the Minister to inspect the progress of work on a rice processing factory under the 1D1F policy and a market stores project in the Hohoe central market.
