Ghanaian reggae/dancehall artiste Kojo Kurankye also known as Ras Kuuku has shared his opinions about ace gospel artiste Joe Mettle after he gained a nomination in the Vodafone Music Awards Artiste of the Year.
In an interview with Andy Dosty on Daybreak Hitz on Hitz FM, he said he didn’t know the gospel singer until he won the ‘Artiste of the Year’ in 2017 at the VGMAs.
“Me, Kojo Kurankye I never knew Joe Mettle until he won the Artiste of the Year,” he said.
He made this comment after he was asked about his recent Facebook post, “Ghana Music Industry, please I want to ask one question. Does the award scheme belong to Joe Mettle? Aaaaahba” in reaction to Joe Mettle’s nomination in this year’s edition of the award ceremony.
The “Me Mpaebo” hit-maker shared his displeasure about the gospel artiste getting a nomination saying he didn’t merit it under the year of review and said there are much more deserving artiste such as Fameye with his hit song Praise.
He also complained about him not getting any nomination for his song “Fakye” for the Record of the year.
“I can see most of the reggae/dancehall DJs complaining about the song not getting a nomination, even if it’s not in the Reggae/Dancehall song of the year my song Fakye should have been in the Record of the Year category, or is it because it is bashing politicians,” he quizzed Andy Dosty.
Joe Mettle, the first gospel artiste in Ghana to win the ‘Artiste of the Year’ award in his genre released “Ye Obua Me” in 2021, a single off the Experience Album.
