The Coalition of Concerned Volta Youths has protested what they described as the reckless allocation of state lands in Ho to a private company

The group questioned why the Lands Commission decided to allocate the land on which government bungalows have been sited to the private developer who has the finances to procure land in any part of the city.

Following this, public servants occupying the bungalows and other structures in the designated area, were served letters by the Volta Regional Coordinating Council (VRCC) to evacuate the premises before 30th March, 2022.

They also expressed disgust at the decision upon learning that a 2 and a half acre land of the defunct State Construction Company yard was the designated area for allocation.

“We want to state unequivocally that the coalition is not against the relocation of Melcom from its current location. We are only at a loss why the need to demolish state quarters for a private developer”, stated Stanley Glatey, the convener.

He stated that Vision Construction Limited was required to replace two bungalows on a state land allocated to him for development with 4 new bungalows, a condition he had already satisfied.

“So we ask, why is Melcom being given a preferential treatment and what is the motive?”, he quizzed.

He indicated that the Coalition is therefore requesting the Lands Commission and the VRCC to ensure the private company relocates to the SCC yard, the former GNTC yard, or the works yard of the Metro Mass.

They also want the planned demolishing of the state quarters to be stopped and as well stop one Mac John Kale from developing a state land allocated to him in between the Doska Flats and Ghana Revenue Authority residential flats.

“We respectfully call on the Volta Regional House of Chiefs to intervene as quickly as possible to avert possible disturbances”, he concluded.

However, the Volta Regional Lands Commissioner, explained his outfit was compelled to re-locate the private developer to the said land after the Asogli State expressed interest in the SCC yard land.

He said the traditional authority explained that it intends to develop the SCC yard land into a palace which would house a museum and other ancillary facilities.

He said this explanation compelled the top hierarchy of the Commission to reserve the land for Asogli and re-locate the private developer over 2 acres of land, which lies along the Ho Stadium road.

He explained that Asogli was tasked to pay for the three bungalows that would be demolished on the land allocated to the private developer, to which they have agreed.
