The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Yendi, Ahmed Abubakar Yussif, has appealed to residents of the Yendi community to provide information that will lead to the arrest of the attackers of Zacholi community.
The MCE said this after a visit to the community on Thursday together with the Northern Regional Police Commander, the Yendi District Police Commander and the Yendi Divisional Police Commander.
“As at now, the place is calm. When we went, we talked to the people…it is left to the people to offer information that is the only way the police can identify the people who caused the confusion. I appealed to the people that they should try as much as possible to offer information to the police. It is not that communities attack communities, it is just some group of people who went about attacking the people,” he said.
Joy News’ Northern Regional Correspondent, Martina Bugri who was providing updates on the situation said the Northern Regional Minister together with the Northern Regional Security Council had arrived in Zacholi to engage the victims to unravel the cause of the attack.
On Tuesday, April 12, nine persons were killed in an attack at Zacholi, a suburb of Yendi.
Four others were also injured in the attack. Some homes were burnt while several properties were destroyed.
According to the community members, the development is a reprisal attack over a robbery incident on Tuesday, April 12 in which two people were killed at Zagbang on the Yendi Zabzugu road.
The injured persons are currently receiving treatment at the Yendi hospital and are in stable condition.
The nomadic herdsmen who were attacked in Zacholi have since been moved into the Dagomba communities in Yendi while security officers have been deployed to the Zacholi community.
Currently, no arrest has been made yet.
