The Minority in Parliament says it will file a motion for a parliamentary probe into the killing of Albert Donkor in Nkoranza in the Bono East Region.

The Caucus said this will help find an amicable solution to the clashes between the youth and the Police.

The Ranking Member on the Defence and Interior Committee of Parliament, James Agalga, insists this will also help ascertain the actual course of Albert Donkor’s death.

Meanwhile, he believes the Police are not speaking the truth.

“The report does not speak to the fact that Albert Donkor died in police custody, and for me, that is the beginning of the cover-up, and I am not amused. So we will take steps to file yet another motion,” he said in an interview.

Already, the Nkoranza South MP, Emmanuel Agyekum, has alleged that Albert was killed four hours after the armed Police officers picked him up.

According to him, he has accounts and evidence to prove his allegations.

“Albert was killed within three to four hours after he was picked up. I am telling you the truth that within four hours, from 2 am to about 5 am, they had finished him, and they took him to the mortuary in Techiman Holy Family.

"They refused to take the body because they needed a family member to sign for it. So I have all these accounts; if they want to deny, they should come and deny.

“So the young man was picked from his house, he was taken to the Police station, his statement was taken, if only it has not been doctored now or they have not changed it, they took him somewhere, and the boy was finished,” he narrated.

He said, “they have the people who wrote his statement, they have everybody, and they are all there. In fact, most of them who were stationed in Nkoranza have all run away. So find out if they are still at home.”

The Nkoranza Municipal Police Command claims that Albert Donkor was an armed robber who died in an exchange of fire with them.

However, the family has refuted the claims, saying he was picked up from home into Police custody, where he died.

His death has led to some level of disturbances in the community.

On Tuesday, May 17, the area’s youth went on a rampage and attacked the Municipal Police headquarters in a bid to demand justice for the deceased.

They freed six other suspects picked up by the Police on suspicion of being armed robbers together with the deceased.

During the rampage by the youth, one person has also been confirmed dead, whilst nine persons, including three in critical condition, are receiving treatment for gunshot wounds at the St. Theresa’s Catholic Hospital.

However, the Police have arrested two persons for their involvement in the attack.

However, relative calm has returned to the community, with solid security visibility.
