The National Secretary of the Customs Staff Association, Gift Emmanuel Kofi Tsamah has responded to the query issued to him by Management of the Ghana Revenue Authority.
According to him, he obtained lawful authority before participating in the discussion on ‘The Probe’ on Sunday, August 14, 2022.
In a response dated August 17, 2022, Mr Tsamah said, “it is my humble and respectful submission that the said press engagement by my good self was carried out pursuant to lawful authority.
Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) queried Mr. Tsamah for participating in a media discussion without approval.
The officer participated in The Probe to discuss mechanisms to improve the revenue collection at the Tema port in the wake of the Special Prosecutor’s damning findings into Labianca company’s dealings with the Customs Division of GRA.
But a query signed by the Authority’s Acting Head of Human Resources, Akua Mpiani-Brobbe said the Secretary acted contrary to the rules of the Authority.
In his reply, Mr. Tsamah wrote, “at all material times, my appearance and participation in the said programme was in a representative capacity as the National Secretary of the CSA and not in my individual capacity as an employee of the Authority. Also, it must be placed on record that even though by practice and conventions the Staff Association does not seek such express permission in order to engage the media, on this occasion, the leadership went outside this convention.”
"Following from the above and by parity of reasoning, it is my humble and respectful
submission that the said press engagement by my good self was carried out pursuant to
lawful authority," Mr. Tsamah concluded.
