The Minority Leader says the rearrest of illegal mining kingpin, Aisha Huang, shows President Akufo-Addo has failed in the 'galamsey' fight.
Haruna Iddrisu said the President did not mean his words when he promised to fight the canker.
According to him, the natural resources of the country are still destroyed by the activities of illegal mining.
Speaking on JoyNews’ AM Show, the Minority Leader said the country’s borders are exposed now more than ever.
“It exposes the porosity of our borders but for me, it reflects a fundamental failure of the government on his illegal mining fight and 'galamsey' fight to which he has committed enormous resources.
“What is the end result? Our water bodies are still being polluted, illegal mining is still ongoing, escalators were seized and burnt and some even got missing. This reflects again as I said the anomaly of our time.
The poor governance system led by President Nana Akufo-Addo. It simply means he has failed in his galamsey war,” he stated on Tuesday, September 6.
Meanwhile, the Tamale South legislator has asked the security agencies to ensure Aisha Huang is prosecuted.
“So we expect the law enforcement agencies to take up this matter and make sure she is subjected to the full rigors of the law without any fear or favour. Other than that, how would you arrest any Ghanaian associated with illegal mining?
“What would you do to the person when you cannot do this to a Chinese national who has been doing this with impunity and disrespected our law," he insisted.
Aisha Huang, aka Aisha Ruixia, a 47-year-old ‘galamsey’ kingpin who was deported in 2019 is back in Ghana and mining without license.
Aisha was remanded into lawful custody by an Accra Circuit Court on Friday, September 2.
Her remand was because there was no Chinese interpreter.
She is facing a charge of mining without a license and engaging in the sale and purchase of minerals without a valid license.
Her accomplices; Johng Li Hua, Huang Jei, and Huaid Hai Hun have been charged with engaging in the sale and purchase of minerals without a license.
