The international advocacy organisation, Global Citizen, last weekend held a cleanup exercise in Accra as part of activities in the build-up to the Global Citizen Festival.
The clean-up exercise, organized in collaboration with Plastic Punch, was aimed at raising awareness about the importance of protecting the environment including climate justice for loss and damage.
Volunteers who joined the cleanup exercise at the Regional Maritime University collected plastic waste, and data, as well as engaged in activities such as socialisation and yoga.
Vice President of Global Policy, Liz Agbor-Tabi who acknowledged the impressive turn-out of the event, told Joy Entertainment’s Nicholas Ekow Yamoah, that the exercise was to call for attention to improve sanitation in our part of the world.
“One of the issues that we see in the climate crisis manifesting here in Africa is environmental degradation and inadequate sanitation management.
"Today’s exercise was to call to attention the need for improved sanitation management and also our responsibility as citizens, as individuals in addressing this challenge that impacts our communities”, she revealed.

The 2022 Global Citizen Festival takes place on Saturday, September 24, 2022, at the Black Star Square in Accra, Ghana, powered by Joy Entertainment.
It is presented by Harith General Partners, and in New York City’s Central Park, presented by Citi and Cisco simultaneously.
Performing for the first time in Ghana at the festival is RnB legend Usher Raymond joined by singer/songwriter SZA, Grammy award-winning artiste H.E.R and Nigeria’s Tems.
Also joining the lineup are Ghanaian rapper Sarkodie, Reggae/Dancehall artiste Stonebwoy, English rapper Stormzy, and musician Gyakie.
