Assistant coach of the Black Stars George Boateng believes the friendly against a star-studded Brazil side on Friday will give the team an idea of their current level.

Both teams have qualified for the 2022 World Cup which is set to later take place in Qatar in November.

Ghana and Brazil will face off in Le Havre, France in the final international window before the Mundial as the two teams look to continue preparations.

It is a David vs Goliath affair with the five-time world champions who are currently ranked number 1 coming up against a Ghana side ranked 60th and is going through transition with young coaches.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Joy Sports, Boateng said the whole team is looking forward to the prospect of facing the World Cup favourites.

“For us, it’s beautiful to play these [friendly games]. You’re playing against the world No.1 [in Brazil], what a challenge, what a prospect to look forward to.

As a coach, you want to test yourself against the best but I can also say the players will want to test themselves against the best.”

There is a chance that this fixture could be repeated in Qatar with Brazil expected to top Group G. In that scenario, Ghana finishing second in Group H means they will face the Seleção in the round of 16.

It is one of the many reasons why Boateng believes the team has to motivate themselves to play well because it can inform them of their development in the past few months.

“So playing against Brazil is a game that you don’t need motivation for. You’ll more than motivated to go out there and perform.

Also, it will give us a good indication of the level that we are at. The players individually, collectively and as a group of staff with the players,” the former Aston Villa U23 coach added.

Ghana will play Nicaragua in Spain four days after facing Brazil. Boateng admits they will provide a different type of test but it is still a learning process for the team.

“Nicaragua will be a different challenge because they are not so highly ranked as Brazil but the danger in that is sometimes players then become complacent thinking this will be an easier game but there is no such thing as easy games.”
