The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) says it has taken notice of the vending challenges customers are facing with the prepaid metering system across the country.
It has, thus, commenced a close monitoring of the situation and is in full discussions with the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to immediately get the issues addressed.
“The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) has noticed with concern challenges experienced in vending by customers on ECash and PNS Metering Services of the Electricity of Ghana (ECG). The Commission is closely monitoring the situation and in full discussions with the service provider to address the issue.

“The Commission wishes to assure all affected customers of its commitment to ensuring the delivery of a safe and reliable utility service provision and to have the issue resolved quickly,” a statement signed by the PURC Executive Secretary, Dr Ishmael Ackah, said.
There have been interruptions in the purchase of electricity credits by customers using both new and old prepaid metres in parts of the country.
Some customers in Volta, Takoradi, Tema, Cape Coast, Kasoa, Winneba, Swedru, Koforidua, Nkawkaw and Tafo have been affected.
Following this, the ECG clarified on Wednesday that the anomaly is a result of some technical challenges which are being resolved.
“Affected customers should please note that our engineers are working assiduously to correct the anomaly and restore the system to normalcy.

“We apologise for the inconvenience caused by this technical challenge,” the Ashanti SBU appealed in the statement signed by its director, David Asamoah.
The PURC says it would continue to help in ensuring a safe and uninterrupted supply of power to the public.
