The UPSA Law School Diplomatic Dialogue Series is expected to come off on Wednesday, November 30.
The keynote speaker for this event is the US Ambassador to Ghana, Virginia Palmer. Other speakers are the Vice Chancellor of UPSA, Professor Abednego Okoe Amartey and Professor Kofi Abotsi, Dean, UPSA Law School.
The diplomatic dialogue conversation is designed to examine the evolving complexity of US-Ghana relations within the larger African and global contexts, question certain key assumptions informing that relationship and confirm broader consensus on key aspects of the relationship.
Of key importance will be the discussion on issues such as good governance, the rule of law and human rights, economic governance, US assistance and global developments.
The United States (US) and Ghana have always maintained strong diplomatic ties, but like the complicated dynamics of every interstate relationship, this relationship has at some point been fraught and this has tested the enduring dimensions of the relationship.
Complex global developments in recent times including geopolitical tensions in Europe and Asia have meant that the dynamics of US relations around the world have naturally become more complicated than before. On the other hand, maintaining the balance and harmony of the existing relationship would require careful adjustments of interests especially within the context of egregious human rights violations in the Russia-Ukraine war and the avoidance of sanctions violations.
The US Ambassador to Ghana will share some thoughts on the above issues.
