Joy FM will hold the second edition of its Twitter Spaces conversations dubbed ‘Joy Entertainment Unpacked’ tonight at 8pm.
On the back of Rihanna and previous Super Bowl Half-time performers not taking a fee for their performances, there will be a discussion on the dynamics in booking artistes for events.
Speaking on the topic “Super Bowl Performances: Learnings from ‘No Fee’ Policy” are Kojo Poku (Big Ideas Consult), Baba Sadiq (Media and Entertainment Entreprenuer/Politician), BullGod (Artiste Manager) and Seven Xavier (President, Ghana Music Alliance/Music Executive).
The conversation is to make sure artistes and event organisers understand how beneficial it is to know the dynamics of rules of engagement regarding concerts/events.
Over the years, some artistes have complained about event organisers exploiting them. While some of these event organisers are said to pay artistes a pittance for their shows, others have also remonstrated the act of some event executives not paying them at all for their services.
Some of these event owners, particularly the ones who organise awards, have said umpteenth times that artistes it is wrong for artistes to charge for their performances at their award ceremonies. Their argument is that these award schemes do not really make profit; they only set out to put together the awards for the good of the industry.
They have also cited the Grammy Awards, the Super Bowl Halftime show and the Global Citizen Festival as programmes that do not pay acts for their performances.
On the @Joy997fm Twitter handle tonight, Joy Entertainment’s Kwame Dadzie engages the panel to shed some light on this matter.
