Incumbent Member of Parliament for the Okaikwei North Constituency, Theresa Lardi Awuni, will run unopposed in the parliamentary primaries of the National Democratic Congress.
The MP, who came to limelight after winning the seat for the NDC for the first time, was endorsed by the party to run unopposed after the close of nomination for parliamentary aspirants.
A statement issued by Raymond Nuworkpor of the constituency's communication bureau said the endorsement of Theresa Awuni is based on her impressive performance during the period under review.
"Hon. Awuni's accomplishments as a Member of Parliament have been significant, and her commitment to promoting government accountability, fiscal discipline, local infrastructure development, capacity-building and human development, and gender equality has not gone unnoticed.
"She has initiated concrete actions and initiatives to advance these causes, and her efforts have earned her the admiration and respect of many", portions of the statement said.
"As we move towards the 2024 elections, it is crucial that we unite behind Hon. Awuni and work to ensure her re-election. We urge everyone to rally around her and make her candidacy an absolute certainty.
"Together, we can continue to make progress and build a brighter future for the people of Okaikwei North", the statement concluded.
In a related development, Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa will also run unopposed in the upcoming parliamentary primaries.
This came to light after the NDC lawmaker emerged as the only person to pick nomination forms to contest the parliamentary primaries in his constituency.
Expressing his delight at the development, Mr Ablakwa indicated that the absence of a competitor will not make him complacent, stating that he will continue to champion the interest of his constituents.
Meanwhile, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has set 13th May, 2023, for its presidential and parliamentary primaries.
In this regard, the party will elect its flagbearer for the 2024 general election, as well its parliamentary candidates across all the 275 electoral constituencies.
This was announced by the General Secretary of the NDC, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, at the party's headquarters on Wednesday, January 18, 2023.
So far, scores of party faithful have expressed their desire to contest the primaries in their various constituencies.
The aspirants across the various constituencies have all expressed their resolve to help the NDC return to the power in the 2024 general election.
According to the party, parliamentary candidates will pick a form at a cost of GH¢5,000.00, and pay a non-refundable filing fee of GH¢40,000.00.
