Dr Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, daughter of the late Jerry John Rawlings, is the latest lawmaker to be crestfallen by the outcome of the secret balloting in Parliament that saw the approval of the six ministerial nominees.
In a Facebook post on Monday, the MP for Korle Klottey said the former President until his death was passionate about the party and never failed to reprimand the party whenever it strayed from its principles.
As the daughter who followed her father’s political steps, Dr Agyeman-Rawlings seems to know what her dad would have done if he were still among the living.
According to her, “he [the late Rawlings] would probably have challenged all of us [NDC MPs] to go and swear on Antoa or dared us to take a lie-detector test!”
Some Ghanaians say they have lost trust in the Minority and the NDC for approving the ministers to join the already over-bloated Akufo-Addo government.
Over the weekend, the party and some of its notable personalities issued statements condemning the treacherous actions of some of its MPs.
Former President John Mahama who tagged the few NDC MPs traitors asked them to undertake a serious soul-searching and learn what it means to be nationalistic.
For Dr Agyeman-Rawlings, the pain she felt after the results were announced is indescribable.
She further described as “cowardice” the decision of some individuals to vote in favour of the appointees.
According to her, these traitors should have boldly announced their opposition to the National Democratic Party (NDC’s) directive instead of hiding within the party “to pursue your individual parochial agenda.”
Although shocked by the results, Dr Agyeman-Rawlings said the incident should serve as a wake-up call for the party.
She believed that the party had strayed from its fundamental principles and could “no longer be ignored or brushed under the carpet.”
